Two Administration Police (AP) officers were, on Friday, arrested after they were caught red-handed receiving bribes.

The two were nabbed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) while they were in the process of receiving Kshs15,000 from a bar trader in Mbeere North, Embu County.

The trader had been arrested by the officers after he was found operating the business without a licence.

“A trader was selling alcoholic drinks without a licence and the two police officers demanded money in order to spare him. As the traders gave out money, the EACC officials apprehended the suspects,” disclosed one witness.

Confirming the incidence, Mbeere North police boss, Ms Jane Sang, revealed that the suspect had been taken into custody while investigations were carried out and would be arraigned in court soon.

This comes days after detectives arrested another senior police officer after he was caught receiving a bribe.

The officer, a deputy OCS attached to Busia Police Station, reportedly received a bribe in order to release a car that had a Ugandan number plate.

The EACC team, which was led by Robert Korir, further claimed that a machine meant for printing fake currency was found in the vehicle released by the officer.

“We conducted investigations after being tipped off on the matter and arrested the policeman.

“The officer knew the machine used to make fake money was in that vehicle, that is why he refused to release it until he got Ksh50,000,” stated a detective
