Blow to Uhuru’s Huduma Namba programme as Parliament blocks company providing technology
– Parliament wants Idemia investigated by DCI within 60 days and money paid to it recovered
– The company has changed its name three times since it started operating in the country
– It has been put on spot over questionable conduct when it provided IEBC with infrastructure in 2017 polls
– The lawmakers said the company has not been registered either as a foreign or Kenyan company
Success of the ongoing biometric registration of citizens onto the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) has been thrown into uncertainty after Parliament directed that the company providing technological infrastructure for the exercise be blacklisted.
This emerged on Wednesday, April 24, during a Parliamentary Committee sitting that recommended Idemia be investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and banned from doing business in Kenya for the next 10 years.
