Fresh hope for HIV cure as new drug eliminates virus in mice Author: Masolo Mabonga UPDATED: 44 MINUTES edical researchers have inched closer to finding cure for HIV after the test successfully eliminated the virus in living mice. The researchers based at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, used a combination of a modified ARV treatment and powerful gene-editing technique that sucessfuly deactivate the virus. This medication boosts traditional anti-HIV drugs enabling them to develop a crystal structure which are then encased in fat-soluble particles. According to researchers, the new drug has the ability to slip through membranes of cells where the virus hide and destroy them before they develop into AIDS. The drug also prevents multiplication of the virus in the body. The new vaccine will apply a ‘block approach’ in stopping the virus from attaching itself onto cells.
