Murang’a man who built road alone receives numerous goodies from bank.

The good deeds of a 45-year-old man from Murang’a County who single-handedly built a road connecting locals to a shopping centre have attracted the attention of ABC Bank.

This week, the bank’s representatives met Nicholas Muchemi and promised him several goodies for his noble project.

ABC bank is set to buy home feeds for his cows for six months as well as enlist him in a SACCO where he can save his milk earnings.

Rhino Mabati Factory, on the other hand, gave Muchemi several roof sheets for his cow shed while Water and Sanitation PS Joseph Irungu ensured water was piped to his home.

A quotation for electricity was also done to ensure his home is lit up in the coming days.

Muchemi built a one-kilometre road connecting the locals to Kaganda shopping centre after the one they were using was blocked by the land owner.

Armed with a jembe, spade, axe and a water jerrican, Muchemi worked for hours to save locals from their long trips to the shopping centre.

“I had made desperate appeals to the local leaders to have the road built but all in vain.

“It was then that I decided to build it using my farm tools for the sake of women and children and to save time,” he said.

Locals are now full of praise for Muchemi whose selfless act has benefited many. Josephine Wairimu, an elderly woman in the area said she had to stop going to church due to inaccessibility but thanks to Muchemi, the distance is now shorter and she will resume.
