Most Kenyans had not seen the mother even though she was always there
– The mother had days earlier come to the defense of her son saying he was not a killer
– She argued Irungu is God-fearing and was brought up in a Christian family Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, the prime suspect in the murder of business woman Monica Kimani, was on Monday, October 15, overwhelmed by emotions and broke down when his mother showed up in court to support him.

Irungu and his equally emotional mum, who has kept a rather low profile since the case began in September 2018, could be seen embracing each other at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, moments before Judge Jessie Lessit walked in.
